Bio

You don’t get to where Hollywood Assassyn has gotten without actually being good. And not the kind of good where people say, ‘hey that band was good’ then simply walk away and forget. We’re talking rather where the unsuspecting person who catches a live show buys a t-shirt, a CD and a round of shots for the band, then tells their friends what they saw and convince them to come to the next show because ‘they are so fucking good.”

From the grease of their own elbows, and the obvious transparency illuminating the fact that these guys are the real deal, these boys have continued to book bigger and bigger shows, and accumulate awards and accolades all without any management, booking agents, or any type of label.

A Perfect Circle, Chevelle, Five Finger Death Punch, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, Seether, The Offspring, Buckcherry, Finger Eleven, Airbourne, Hail the Villain, Danko Jones, Powerman 5000, Gob, Art of Dying, Bif Naked, Default. Recognize any of those bands? Hollywood Assassyn has shared the stage with them all.

In mid 2010, a 4th place finish in the 72 band Alberta wide, Last Band Standing landed them a feature spread in the October issue of Portal Magazine. They then attracted the interest of Beau Hill (Alice Cooper, Ratt, Warrant) and had a 3 song EP re-mixed by Beau for release to radio in the summer months. The first single ‘Watch Me’ was submitted and early in 2011 they were announced winners of the Canadian Radio Star Regional song writing competition, earning them a showcase spotlight at Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Ontario. Mere days before this win they were also nominated for Best Hardrock/Metal band in the Edmonton Music Awards.

Hollywood Assassyn is 4 what-you-see-is-what-you-get guys from cold and snowy Edmonton, AB who love rock and roll, but hate anything that isn’t real. The name was chosen to depict the absurdities covered by today’s pop music trends and entertainment world.

“The lack of talent being overshadowed by extravagances and neurotic behaviors seems a bit phony and irritating to us. We’re more the ‘what-you-see-is-what-you-get’ type than a bunch of pretty boys posing for the ladies and record execs.”

Their influences are too many to cite, but their ability to create songs from all extremities of the Hard-Rock/Metal spectrum will surely find a way to please anyone taking the time to listen to what these guys have to offer, in one way or another.

Hollywood Assassyn is one Edmonton band that has made a very serious move in their local and provincial scene quickly and forcefully, and now they have fixated their sights on the next level and know exactly how to get what they want. Hard work and kicking ass are the formula. The rest is what it’s supposed to be.
